
I chose to spend my junior year abroad for several reasons. I came down with a bad case ofpremature “senior slump” my sophomore year, so I knew I needed a change of scenery. At my home institution of Tufts University, I became bored with my redundant life. My social life became mundane and my academics became unbearably boring. The world around me seemed to lay quiet while I raced full speed ahead. Collegiate life altogether in the Boston suburbs came to a standstill. I had no option but to escape. I thought to myself, how could I get around leaving school without actually dropping out? I didn’t have a billion-dollar business idea to fall back on (despite being an entrepreneurship minor), so I hit a wall. And just like that, the solution presented itself to me like a light at the end of a #whitegirlproblems tunnel. Study abroad! I knew it would not be simple, as I had not yet begun my economics major. But I was determined to make it happen, and that I did. Fast forward one year later, I am writing this blog for Abroad101 in Hong Kong, fumbling with my chopsticks and splashing soy sauce all over my keyboard, as I attempt to type while devouring vegetable fried rice at a local Chinese hole-in-the-wall.
