Gain Access to the $1 Million CIEE GAIN Scholarship Initiative!

At Abroad101, we are thrilled that thousands of students take advantage of the opportunity to study abroad each semester. It’s our goal to inform students of the great programs available and the opportunities put in place to make study abroad even more accessible!

Study abroad seems expensive, doesn’t it? While some programs are more expensive than others, studying abroad can be cost effective and there are a lot of great opportunities in the field that give more students access to these life-changing programs.

With that in mind, we’re excited to announce to our community a particularly impressive scholarship initiative through CIEE.

Recently, we had the chance to speak with Steve Amendo, at CIEE. CIEE is the leading international education and exchange organization with over 150 study abroad programs for the summer, semester, and year in Africa, Middle East, Asia, Europe and Latin America.

CIEE recently announced its Global Access Initiative (GAIN) and is currently accepting applications for the GAIN Scholarship, a fantastic opportunity that provides $1 million per year to deserving students from economically challenged and diverse backgrounds and students in underrepresented fields of study. Steve and CIEE agree that the study abroad experience is invaluable, and it’s important to give as many students access to these programs as possible!

Can you describe the GAIN scholarship for our community?

Our GAIN Scholarship is part of a $1 million program to expand access to study abroad. CIEE launched GAIN to help overcome the main barriers to study abroad, namely, challenges of cost and curriculum requirements. CIEE is providing the scholarship to expand access to students for full-year, semester, and summer study abroad programs. GAIN will also provide grants and scholarships to students who are selected as awardees by the highly respected Benjamin A. Gilman and David L. Boren Scholarship programs.

We’ve also just launched our Summer Combo programs, which pair two locations through an academic theme so that students can have a two-city study abroad experience this summer.
