According to a recent article, a Wheaton College graduate filed a lawsuit against her alma mater protesting Wheaton’s study abroad tuition policies. Wheaton charges full college tuition when students study abroad on outside programs. Some students oppose the lawsuit, arguing that study abroad is “a contract that we enter into of our own volition,” but the lawsuit alleges that the practice is tantamount to “blackmail”. Read more →
A recent article in the Daily Pennsylvanian illustrates the increasing trend of students studying abroad in destinations of personal significance by revisiting their ancestry. Cecily Wu classifies these emerging “heritage students,” as “those with family ties to their study abroad destinations… such an option gives students a chance to fully reimmerse themselves in their native countries.” Read more →
This past week, The New York Times released an article showcasing Princeton University’s decision to offer accepted students an opportunity to defer for a year to pursue social service work.
